Finally, today Skype released Skype 2.0 for the iPhone. It has capability to make calls over 3G networks. They have added some CD quality audio enhancements also which work pretty well.
New Features in Version 2.0.0:
Call using your 3G connection. Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until at least end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply)
Near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wideband audio (SILK codec) on iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPod touch

Now, Skype 2.0 is available at the App Store. Skype 2.0 is now an Apple iPhone app which supports voice calling over AT&T�s 3G network.
In a press release Skype writes, �Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G will be free for a trial period which will run until the end of 2010*. Details of pricing will be announced in the coming months and will be in line with Skype's commitment to providing customers with great value. Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi will still remain free.�
Skype is based on Voice over IP or VoIP technology. It allows for internet-based phone calls that are free when both participants in the phone call are using Skype software. There is a minimal per-minute rate when one user is using a standard telephone.
